I made this headboard to complete an existing bedroom set. This Heritage Henredon triple dresser on the is what influenced the headboard. It came as an inheritance. The piece is made of mahogany and has a very classic, old-fashioned form. What I find most attractive in it is the bow-front that I wanted to transfer to the piece I was creating.
This is a back view of the design with dimensions. I added a heavy MDF piece at the bottom to balance the weight of the tall headboard and to connect it with the box spring of the mattress.
I wanted the headboard to be practical and versatile. I designed it so that the whole frame comes apart. Being a large piece of furniture, this allows for an easier move. The picture at the bottom of the page is from the actual construction to illustrate the connection between the separate parts. I used a tite joint type of fasteners to connect the large pieces of the wooden frame In addition the upholstered panels can be removed without disassembling the frame and easily reupholstered.
